Cigarr Review: Romeo y Julieta Cedros de Luxe (LCDH Exclusivo 2015)

In mid-2015, Habanos S.A. released the eagerly awaited,  Romeo y Julieta Cedros de Luxe. This release would mark the fourth Cedros for the Romeo y Julieta brand and also the tenth exclusive release for La Casa del Habanos. The Romeo y Julieta brand is one of the more popular brands for Habanos S.A. and since 2012 the brand has been receiving a lot of love. They have had releases with titles bearing Limitada, Reserva, Añejados, and Gran Reserva, so you might as well make an exclusive for a La Casa del Habano while you are at. Enough of the introduction though, let's take a look at the Romeo y Julieta Cedros de Luxe.

Habanos: Romeo y Julieta Cedros de Luxe (LCDH Exclusivo 2015)
Factory: La Corona
Wrapper: Cuba
Binder: Cuba
Filler: Cuba
Length: 141 mm
Ring Gauge: 50
Vitola: Gorditos

The Habano is gorgeous in hand, and once you remove the cedar cover, you find a beautiful wrapper. It has a nice coloring that is close to Colorado overall with some Colorado-Maduro aspects as well. There is a perfect triple cap to finish the cigar and it is firm throughout. There are some veins present, few overall and they are smaller in size. I am picking up an aroma of leather, stone fruit, spice and tobacco, and that is present on the wrapper and foot.

The first third begin by showing some great Romeo flavors, and I am loving the size offering. There are characters of leather and earth, with some meaty qualities on top of that. It has a strong spice quality with that, and there is a subtle cherry finish to the cigar. It is a stone fruit finish that I get with the brand. I would classify the cigar as being medium to medium-full in body and strength, and the flavors are there as well. The construction thus far has been perfect and it has had a smooth draw with an even burn line on the end. The ash is holding on firmly to the end, and it has a nice charcoal coloring.

When I get into the second third, the flavors continue to grow while showing the qualities of the first third. I am picking up that leather, wood and meaty profile, and it has a nice strong spice finish. I am picking up some pepper qualities and it has that cherry stone fruit finish which has been present from the beginning as well. The body and strength continue to smoke at that medium to medium-full level, and it is right in line with the first third. The construction remains top notch as well and it is delivering that perfect draw with a razor sharp burn line on the end. The ash holds that charcoal coloring and is remaining on the end firmly.

I am in the final third of the cigar now and while I find the flavor profile to be in line with the first and second third, it is an enjoyable third. It is delivering that leather, stone fruit and spice quality, and it is the qualities I like in the Romeo brand. It may not be overly complex or showing a lot of transitioning, but it is a great core flavor profile. The body and strength remain at that medium to medium-full level and the flavors are there as well. The construction remains top notch in the final third, same as it has in the first two thirds, and it is delivering that razor sharp burn line with the firm charcoal ash on the end. The draw is cool to the end and you could not ask for more in a Habanos.

I am a huge fan of the Cedros de Luxe and beside me believing that this is a solid Habanos now, I believe it will be even better with age. The Habanos delivers excellent construction and more importantly has a great flavor profile with a nice body and strength level. I am one that struggles with the Romeo brand, but I believe the Cedros de Luxe to be an offering that delivers the great Romeo qualities. I prefer it over the Churchill and Wide Churchill, and those are my two favorite Romeo offerings. It is probably my third favorite LCDH exclusive after the Bolivar and Hoyo, and the vitola offering and packaging is just great. Pick up a box for again and one for smoking. I give it a rating between 88 and 90 now, with a rating of 91 to 93 with age.

Young Rating: 88-90
